| October 3rd begins National Fire Prevention Week. This year's theme is "Smoke Alarms: A sound you can live with".
According to the National Fire Protection Association, nearly two-thirds of home fire deaths occur in homes that do not have smoke alarms or that have smoke alarms that are not working. Protect your family and your home with these simple tips ...
- Install smoke alarms on every floor of your home, outside each sleeping area, and in every bedroom.
- Test smoke alarms at least monthly by pushing the test button.
- Replace batteries at least once per year and immediately when the smoke alarm "chirps" indicating a low battery.
- All smoke alarms should be replaced when they are 10 years old, and whenever they do not respond properly when tested.
