By BIFD Staff Reporter
August 26, 2013

On Thursday afternoon, August 22nd, 60 Control dispatched Banksville fire units to a reported car on fire in a garage on Rustling Lane, which is the most northen part of our district. Car 2581 immediately requested tankers from Armonk and Pound Ridge be added to the assignment, and upon receiving a report from Battalion 16 that a large column of smoke was visible from Route 172, 2581 requested the full 10-75 alarm assignment.

Upon arrival, 2581 found an attached garage fully involved, with extension into the home. Engine 158 laid 1,400 feet of 5 inch hose from the intersection of Rustling Lane and East Middle Patent Road to the scene and began an aggressive interior attack with assistance from BHFD Cars 2031 and 2033 to cut of fire extension into the home. Tanker 7 positioned at the intersection and supplied the line. Engine 157 laid all of its 4,200 feet of 5 inch hose and then repositioned to relay. Bedford Engine 108 laid 900 additional feet of 5 inch to a pond and set-up drafting operations. In total, 6,500 feet of 5 inch supply line was laid, with Engine 108, Engine 157 and Tanker 7 working the relay to Engine 158.

Bedford Car 2041 was designated Water Supply officer and coordinated the relay operation and a tanker shuttle involving Banksville Tanker 17, and tankers from Bedford Hills, Pound Ridge, Armonk and Cos Cob (Greenwich). Water was never lost at the scene.

Additional companies called to scene and assisting included Bedford Hills Engine 199, Mount Kisco Engine 106 and Utility 13 (Fas Team), Katonah Rescue 17(Cascade), Chappaqua Rescue 23, Armonk Ambulance 52B-1, Westchester EMS, Greenwich EMS, Westchester County Battalion 16 and Cause and Origin Team, and North Castle Police. Due to the remote location, ATVs from Armonk and Pound Ridge also assisted with shuttling personnel and supplies. A relocation to Banksville was covered by Greenwich Car 3 (DC Nixon) and Greenwich Engine 8.

Firefighters at the scene worked together seamlessly and did a great job preventing the fire from taking the house.
