On Saturday, November 3rd at 15:14 hours, Banksville and Greenwich Fire Department units were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Taconic Road in Greenwich. Car 2582 (GFD 702) arrived first on scene and found smoke showing from the entire structure and active fire showing on the first floor. Bystanders on scene also reported someone was yelling for help from within the structure. (The sole occupant was confirmed to be safely outside a short time later). Banksville Engine 157 (GFD Eng 71) laid 1,300 feet of 5-inch hose to a dry hydrant, Greenwich Engine 4 initiated fire attack along with a crew from Banksville, and Banksville Tanker 7 supplied Engine 4 while the supply line was being laid. Greenwich Car 3 (Deputy Chief) assumed Command upon arrival and Car 2582 transitioned to Water Supply.
Additional Greenwich units arrived quickly, multiple attack lines were placed into operation, vertical ventilation was performed, and the fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes.
A request to cover the Banksville station was filled by an Engine and crew from the Armonk Fire Department, and they responded along with Banksville Engine 158 and the Long Ridge Fire Department to an alarm in Stamford.
An outstanding demonstration of teamwork by all involved.
