About Us
Founded in 1949, the Banksville Independent Fire Department (BIFD) is an all-volunteer organization located along the New York - Connecticut border in the Town of North Castle, Westchester County, NY. With the state line running through the tiny hamlet of Banksville, BIFD is chartered and provides services in both New York and Connecticut.
In New York, BIFD serves the Town of North Castle's Fire Protection District #3. In addition to providing fire and rescue services within this district, BIFD is also recognized by New York State as a Basic Life Support First Response agency, and responds along with the Armonk Fire Department Ambulance to emergency medical services calls. BIFD is also a participant in the Westchester County, NY Mutual Aid Plan, and provides (and receives) mutual aid assistance when requested.
In Connecticut, BIFD is chartered in the Town of Greenwich as a "helper company" and is recognized as Station 7 of the Greenwich Fire Department. BIFD operates as part of the Greenwich Fire Department when responding to calls within Greenwich. BIFD also has a long-standing automatic aid agreement with the Long Ridge Fire Department, located in the Stamford, CT, and provides first response fire and EMS assistance within the northwest corner of their district.
