A motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon in a collision with a car on Riversville Road, police said.
The crash happened just after 3 p.m. when police received a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcyclist who was wedged underneath a car.
Police, fire and medics responded, closing off the scene and shutting down a stretch of the roadway between Hycliff Road and Sherwood Avenue north of the Merrit Parkway.
"There was a motor vehicle versus motorcycle accident," said Lt. Daniel Allen, the spokesman for the department. "The motorcyclist has expired from his injuries and his name will not be released until the next of kin is notified."
Police said a woman driving the car involved in the accident was not injured, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution following the crash.
Investigators remained at the scene as of Thursday evening and officials said it would be hours before the scene was cleared.
No further information on the accident was released Thursday.
This is the second fatal accident in the last month in town. On Sept. 17, a Greenwich man died after his car crashed into a group of trees on Lake Avenue. |
